MultiChoice Announces Another Price Hike for DStv & GOtv Subscriptions Starting on March 1st

Nigerians will soon have to pay more for their DStv and GOtv subscriptions, as MultiChoice Nigeria has announced new price increases, effective March 1, 2025.

The company cites rising operational costs due to economic challenges as the main reason behind the price adjustments.

New Subscription Prices for DStv & GOtv

Under the revised pricing, here’s what subscribers will now pay:

DStv Packages:

  • DStv Premium – ₦44,500
  • DStv Compact+ – ₦30,000
  • DStv Compact – ₦19,000
  • DStv Confam – ₦11,000
  • DStv Yanga – ₦6,000
  • DStv Padi – ₦4,400

GOtv Packages:

  • GOtv Max – ₦8,500
  • GOtv Jolli – ₦5,800
  • GOtv Jinja – ₦3,900
  • GOtv Smallie – ₦1,900

Why the Price Increase?

MultiChoice Nigeria explained that economic factors such as inflation, rising content acquisition costs, and foreign exchange fluctuations influenced this decision.

According to the company’s statement:

“Due to prevalent economic factors leading to increased operational costs, we have unavoidably had to adjust the prices of our DStv and GOtv subscription packages. We understand the impact this change may have on our valued partners and customers.”

A History of Price Hikes

This is not the first time MultiChoice has raised subscription prices in Nigeria:

  • April 2023: Prices increased by 17%, sparking customer backlash.
  • 2022: A price hike attempt led to a legal battle with the Competition and Consumer Protection Tribunal (CCPT), which ruled against immediate increases.

Despite these controversies, MultiChoice defends its price adjustments, stating they are necessary to maintain service quality and sustain operations.

What’s Next for Subscribers?

With the current economic challenges in Nigeria, this increase will likely put more pressure on subscribers. Many may reconsider their subscriptions, while others might switch to alternative entertainment options like Netflix, Showmax, or YouTube.
