WhatsApp has confirmed that it will officially stop working on a number of older smartphones starting June 1, 2025. This move is part of the company’s regular effort to focus on devices that support the latest security updates and features.
The announcement means that users with certain iPhones and Android phones will no longer be able to send or receive messages, make calls, or access chat backups on WhatsApp unless they update their device or switch to a newer model.
Why Is WhatsApp Ending Support for Older Phones?
According to WhatsApp, older operating systems lack the technical capabilities and security infrastructure needed to support the app’s latest features. By ending support for outdated software, WhatsApp can improve performance, introduce more secure communication tools, and provide a better overall user experience.
Affected Devices
If your phone runs an older version of iOS or Android, it may soon lose access to WhatsApp. Here are some of the key models that will be affected:
iPhones losing WhatsApp support:
- iPhone 5

- Samsung Galaxy S3

Any phone that runs below iOS 12 or Android 5.1 (Lollipop) will not be able to use WhatsApp after the deadline.
What You Should Do
