MultiChoice, the company behind DStv and GOtv, is testing a new weekly subscription model called Ka Weekie in Uganda and Nigerian customers might be next in line to benefit.
The pilot plan allows users to pay for just seven days of viewing rather than committing to a full month. With rising subscription costs and increasing demand for flexibility, this model could offer Nigerian subscribers more control over how and when they pay.
What Is Ka Weekie?
In Uganda, Ka Weekie lets users pay about 5,000 Ugandan shillings (approximately ₦2,500) to access their preferred DStv or GOtv package for one week. Both existing and new subscribers can use this option. For new customers, it starts with a one-month sign-up, after which they can switch to weekly billing if desired.
According to MultiChoice Uganda, this new approach is designed for people with unpredictable schedules or budgets, such as students, weekly wage earners, and families who want to enjoy premium content only when it suits them.
Will Nigeria Get Weekly DStv and GOtv Plans?
It’s very likely. Nigeria is one of MultiChoice’s biggest markets. In recent months, the company faced backlash from subscribers due to multiple price hikes including a major one in March 2025 that raised rates by more than 20%.
A flexible weekly payment option would be a smart move in a country where inflation and household budget pressures are making fixed monthly fees harder to manage.
While MultiChoice Nigeria has not officially announced the launch of Ka Weekie, industry insiders suggest that a similar model could be introduced soon especially if the Uganda pilot proves successful.
Why This Matters to Subscribers
Offering weekly payments gives subscribers more freedom and reduces the financial burden of one-time monthly fees. It could also help MultiChoice regain public goodwill and compete more effectively with on-demand streaming services like Netflix, Prime Video, and Showmax.
Possible Benefits
- Affordability: Great for those who can’t pay all at once.
- Flexibility: Watch when you want without wasting money.
- Accessibility: Easier for students, travelers, and low-income households.
