The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has issued a strong warning to Nigerians against using unauthorized portals to modify their National Identification Number (NIN) data. The commission emphasized that such actions could expose individuals to identity theft and fraud.
According to a statement by Dr. Kayode Adegoke, NIMC’s Head of Corporate Communications, the only authorized platform for modifying NIN data is the official NIMC Self-Service Portal.
“For the safety and security of your personal data, Nigerians should only make modifications via selfservicemodification.nimc.gov.ng. Any other portal is unauthorized and could lead to serious security risks,” Adegoke stated.
Risks of Using Unauthorized Platforms
- Identity Theft: Unauthorized platforms may steal and misuse your personal details.
- Fraudulent Activities: Cybercriminals can alter NIN data for illegal purposes.
- Permanent Data Loss: There is no guarantee that unauthorized sites will store or process your data correctly.
How to Modify Your NIN Data Safely
NIMC advises Nigerians to follow these steps for a secure NIN modification:
- Visit the official NIMC portal: selfservicemodification.nimc.gov.ng.
- Log in with your NIN details.
- Follow the instructions to update your information securely.
